Product Short Description

Product Name
MOOG D138-002-012 servo control unit
Product Introduction
Published industrial sources describe more than one D138-002-012 hardware configuration. Verify the nameplate and firmware label because one configuration is a single-axis analog servo drive and another is a multi-axis MSC II controller. Both are covered below.

Description

Technical Specifications
Analog drive configuration: logic supply 24 VDC, power supply 100 to 180 VDC, continuous output 8 A, peak output 16 A, PWM frequency 8 kHz, feedback tachometer or incremental encoder, protection for overcurrent, overtemperature, short-circuit and open-motor, natural cooling, operating temperature 0 to plus 50 degrees Celsius, storage minus 40 to plus 85 degrees Celsius, dimensions approximately 230 by 108 by 65 mm, weight approximately 1.2 kg, vertical panel or rack mounting.
Controller configuration: power supply 24 VDC, multi-axis motion control, Ethernet, CANopen, Modbus RTU, optional EtherCAT or PROFIBUS, cycle times in the microsecond range according to firmware, digital and analog I/O according to build, IP20 cabinet mounting, DIN or 19-inch rack mechanical package depending on variant.
Functional Features
Analog version provides high-speed current-loop control for DC or brushless servo motors.
Controller version provides trajectory generation, PLC logic, encoder or LVDT interfacing and fieldbus communication.
Both versions support closed-loop position, speed and torque regulation.
Application Scenarios
Laboratory servo test benches, hydraulic press axes, industrial robotics, material-test machines, web handling and precision automation lines.
Material Composition
Industrial PCB, aluminum heatsink or housing, steel mounting brackets, insulated terminal blocks and sealed encoder or power connectors according to build.
Structural Characteristics
Analog version uses a compact panel module with power stage, PWM controller, feedback jumpers and protection relays. Controller version uses a modular DIN or rack body with processor board, I/O board and communication interfaces.
Working Principle
Analog version converts the plus or minus 10 V speed or torque command into PWM current output and corrects the output using tachometer or encoder feedback. Controller version executes motion algorithms, transmits commands to amplifiers or valves and closes position or force loops through digital and analog feedback.
Installation Requirements
Analog version: mount vertically with free air circulation, use 100 to 180 VDC power stage supply and 24 VDC logic supply, separate signal and power cables.
Controller version: mount on DIN rail or rack, provide 24 VDC control supply, ground shields and validate bus termination.
Usage Precautions
Do not operate the analog power stage above 180 VDC.
Measure motor winding insulation before resetting overcurrent faults.
For controller builds, confirm firmware and I/O license before system integration.
