Working Principle
- Safety control output commands are transmitted from HIMatrix safety controller via redundant SafeEthernet cyclic safety frames with cryptographic checksum verification
- On-board safety FPGA distributes digital drive signals to 16 independent MOSFET output circuits
- Built-in current sensing circuits continuously monitor each channel load current; threshold violation triggers immediate channel power cut-off and fault logging
- Load impedance detection circuitry identifies open circuit (broken wire, burnt coil) and raises diagnostic alarms within 100 ms of fault occurrence
- Hardware watchdog circuit continuously monitors module CPU operation and network link health; total communication loss triggers all outputs to safe de-energized state within 12 ms
Advantage Highlights
- 16 low-power output channels in single 22.5 mm slice drastically reduces cabinet space and wiring cost versus smaller 4/8-channel DO modules
- Open load detection function identifies broken valve coils and disconnected wiring without additional external monitoring hardware
- Full SIL3 safety certification compliant for fire & gas alarm, emergency stop interlock and safety relay control loops
- Dual redundant SafeEthernet ports eliminate external network switches for fault-tolerant ring SIS networks
- Automatic fault recovery removes requirement for manual power cycle after transient short-circuit field faults
- Wide operating temperature range adapts to unconditioned industrial control cabinets for refinery and power plant deployment
Applicable Industries
Refinery fire & gas alarm horn and beacon control, power plant turbine safety auxiliary relay interlock, chemical plant emergency stop circuit actuation, offshore platform safety indicator light control, pharmaceutical hazardous batch process safety relay logic, fertilizer plant gas detection alarm output control
Installation Requirements
- Install exclusively on standard 35 mm DIN top hat rail inside IP20 rated electrical control cabinet
- Maintain minimum 10 mm vertical clearance above and below module for passive heat dissipation
- All field load wiring must use shielded twisted pair cables with single-point grounding at cabinet protective earth bar
- Separate high-current DO load wiring and low-current analog/sensor signal wiring with minimum 5 cm physical separation
- SafeEthernet communication cables must be industrial CAT5e shielded Ethernet cable
- Surge protection devices required for field wiring runs longer than 20 meters
- Cabinet ambient humidity maintained at 5% – 95% non-condensing with zero internal condensation
Usage Precautions
- Prohibited for Ex Zone 0 / Zone 1 hazardous area installation; only Ex Zone 2 cabinet mounting permitted.
- All inductive loads (solenoids, safety relays, alarm horns) must have flyback freewheeling diodes installed across load terminals to suppress inductive voltage spikes.
- Disconnect all field wiring terminals before hot-swapping the module to avoid transient voltage surge damage to internal MOSFET drive circuits.
- Continuous supply voltage must stay within 19.2 VDC – 30 VDC range; sustained overvoltage leads to permanent driver circuit degradation.
- Terminal screw tightening torque limited to maximum 0.8 N·m to prevent PCB trace fracture and plastic terminal base cracking.
- Firmware modification via non-HIMA official software tools invalidates TÜV SIL3 safety certification and full product warranty.
- Annual complete channel function and fault detection testing mandatory to satisfy IEC 61511 process safety audit requirements.
