Product Short Description
Product Name
PXI-6602 8-Channel 32-Bit Counter/Timer Module
Product Overview
The PXI-6602 is a timing and counter module built around the NI-TIO architecture. It provides high-resolution counter/timer functions, buffered measurements, and TTL/CMOS-compatible digital I/O for advanced synchronization.
Description
Technical Specifications
- Counter/Timers: 8 up/down counters
- Counter Resolution: 32 bits
- Measure Frequency: 80 MHz
- Source Frequency: 80 MHz
- Base Clocks: 100 kHz, 20 MHz, 80 MHz
- Digital I/O: Up to 32 lines
- DMA Transfers: Up to 3 simultaneous
- Connector: 68-pin female SCSI-II
- Operating Temperature: 0 °C to 55 °C
Functional Features
- Quadrature encoder position measurement
- Frequency, period, pulse-width, and edge counting
- Buffered counter measurements through DMA
- Glitch removal and digital debouncing
- RTSI and PXI trigger bus synchronization
- TTL/CMOS-compatible PFI and DIO lines
Working Principle
Each counter uses source, gate, up/down, and output signals. The NI-TIO ASIC routes timing signals internally and across the PXI backplane. DMA engines move buffered counter data to host memory without heavy CPU load.
Application Scenarios
- Encoder and position measurement
- Frequency and period measurement
- Pulse generation
- Event counting
- Motion control timing
- Multidevice test synchronization
Installation Requirements
- Insert into PXI chassis slot
- Use 68-pin shielded SCSI cable and compatible terminal block
- Install NI-DAQ driver
- Route PXI trigger lines for system synchronization
- Verify counter timing parameters before running
Usage Notes
- In CompactPCI chassis, PXI-specific timing features may be unavailable
- Use proper termination for high-speed timing signals
- Avoid excessive EMI on PFI lines
- Configure debounce filters for noisy digital inputs
- Do not exceed TTL/CMOS logic level limits
