Product Short Description

Product Name: Triconex 2301 Trident Digital Input Module (Baseplate Kit)
Product Introduction:
The Triconex 2301 is a safety-rated discrete (digital) input module baseplate within the Triconex Trident safety system platform. It acquires on/off field signals and feeds them into the triple-modular-redundant (TMR) safety logic solver for emergency shutdown (ESD), burner management, and other critical safety functions.

Description

Technical Specifications:
  • Manufacturer: Triconex (Schneider Electric)
  • Product Type: Digital Input Module / Baseplate Kit
  • Input Channels: 8 discrete input channels
  • Signal Type: Dry contact / PNP-type digital signals
  • Voltage Range: 12 to 24 V DC (nominal 24 V DC, ±10%)
  • Safety Integrity Level: SIL 3 (per IEC 61508)
  • Redundancy Architecture: Triple Modular Redundant (TMR)
  • Noise Immunity: 5 V peak-to-peak
  • Operating Temperature: –40 °C to 70 °C (some sources state –40 °C to 85 °C)
  • Hot-Swap Support: Yes
  • Mounting: 35 mm DIN rail (standard)
  • Compatible Controllers: Triconex 3000 / 5000 / 7000 series
  • Dimensions: 165 mm × 80 mm × 40 mm
  • Weight: Approximately 1.0 kg
Functional Characteristics:
  • TMR architecture ensures continued operation despite a single-point failure
  • 5 V peak-to-peak noise immunity for reliable signal acquisition in electrically hostile environments
  • Hot-swappable design minimizes process downtime during maintenance
  • SIL 3 certification meets the strictest international functional safety standards
Working Principle:
Three independent input channels simultaneously read the same field contact state. The TMR logic compares the three readings; if one channel disagrees due to a fault, the majority vote determines the true state, and the faulty channel is flagged for maintenance — all without interrupting the safety function.
Application Scenarios:
  • Emergency Shutdown (ESD) systems in oil & gas
  • Gas Detection Systems (GDS)
  • Turbine protection systems
  • Burner Management Systems (BMS)
  • Critical process interruption in chemical and petrochemical plants
  • Power generation turbine control
Installation Requirements:
  • Mount on a 35 mm DIN rail within the Trident chassis
  • Wire field contacts to the baseplate terminals with proper shielding
  • Provide 24 V DC power within the ±10% tolerance band
  • Ensure ambient temperature remains within –40 °C to 70 °C
Usage Notes:
  • Do not exceed the 24 V DC ±10% supply range
  • Verify SIL 3 loop calculations before deployment
  • Use hot-swap capability only after confirming system fault tolerance
  • Periodic proof-testing is required to maintain SIL 3 certification
