Technical Specifications​

Two built-in Ethernet ports for Modbus TCP/IP and Siemens Industrial Ethernet. EtherNet/IP, ControlNet, Data Highway Plus and DH485 are supported through Rockwell 1756 communication bridge modules. Up to 16 controller interfaces can be configured in one project. Rockwell tag browsing is supported for ControlLogix, CompactLogix, SLC 500, PLC-5 and MicroLogix across supported bridged networks. Modbus and Siemens data use user-defined tags mapped to device addresses. Transfer lists use source and destination tags. Triggers execute lists by tag-value change or scheduled time interval. Internal clock can be set manually or synchronized with ControlLogix/CompactLogix hourly, daily, every 8 hours or every 12 hours. Configuration can be stored on the onboard compact flash card.

Functional Features​

Single-slot 1756 backplane operation with licensed backplane technology. Built-in web configuration utility removes the need for separate programming or configuration software. Remove and insert under power is supported on compatible chassis. Local and remote rack operation is supported. Scrolling status display provides diagnostics. Security uses viewer access without login and project or administrator roles for configuration changes.

Applications​

Factory and plant process automation, OEM machine integration, multi-vendor PLC data exchange, packaging lines, power and process monitoring, and retrofits where OEM controller source code is unavailable.

Working Principle​

The module operates as a transaction engine. It reads source tags from Rockwell, Modbus TCP or Siemens Industrial Ethernet networks, applies transfer-list mapping and trigger rules, converts data formats, and writes destination tags to the target controller. All scheduling, addressing and protocol translation are handled inside the module instead of inside PLC message routines.

Installation Requirements​

Install in a compatible ControlLogix 1756 chassis slot with proper backplane power. Assign Ethernet IP addresses through the built-in web tool or setup mode. Connect Rockwell bridged networks through certified 1756 communication modules. Verify firmware and Studio/ControlLogix compatibility before commissioning.

Precautions​

Use a supported web browser for full configuration. Restrict administrator password and project access. Save configuration to compact flash before module replacement. Perform remove-and-insert-under-power only on chassis and firmware combinations that explicitly support RIUP. Isolate Ethernet ports from unauthorized network access.
