DIN rail mounted intrinsically safe isolation barrier dedicated to Pt100 resistance temperature detectors installed in explosive classified hazardous areas. Converts 2-wire / 3-wire RTD resistance temperature signals to standardized linear 4–20 mA analog output for safe-area DCS/PLC temperature monitoring systems, with integrated sensor breakage diagnostic function.

Working Principle

Constant 1 mA precision reference current injects into field-side Pt100 RTD sensor installed in hazardous zone. Internal resistance measurement circuit calculates temperature proportional to Pt100 resistance change. Isolation optocoupler transfers temperature measurement data across intrinsically safe isolation boundary to output driver stage. Output stage generates calibrated 4–20 mA analog signal proportional to measured temperature. Continuous lead resistance monitoring circuit triggers fixed 22 mA fault signal if RTD wiring open circuit detected.

Installation Requirements

  1. Install inside IP54+ sealed industrial electrical cabinets; horizontal DIN rail mounting only
  2. All field-side RTD wiring strictly follow IEC 60079-14 intrinsic safety wiring standards
  3. Separate hazardous field cables and safe-area control cables with physical internal cabinet partitions
  4. Connect module output terminals directly to DCS/PLC analog input card loop supply circuit
  5. Maintain minimum 10 mm vertical clearance above and below module for thermal heat dissipation

Usage Precautions

  1. Maximum cumulative lead resistance per RTD wire must not exceed 100 Ω; use low-resistance shielded field cable for long sensor runs
  2. Do not mix non-intrinsically safe wiring within same cable conduit as hazardous zone RTD wiring
  3. Adjust DIP switch temperature range configuration only with full system power disconnected
  4. For SIL safety temperature monitoring loops, perform quarterly accuracy calibration validation
  5. Avoid mounting adjacent to high-power heat-generating modules without 15 mm spacing gap
  6. Do not short-circuit field-side RTD terminals during live hazardous zone wiring maintenance
