Product Short Description
Product Name: 6410 Series Stepper Motor Drive
Product Introduction:
The PACIFIC SCIENTIFIC 6410-001-N-N-N is a two-phase bipolar, chopper current-regulated stepper motor drive. It converts step and direction inputs into motor winding currents to control a two-phase stepper motor. The drive offers microstepping and mid-band instability compensation for high resolution and smooth operation across low speed and mid-band resonance regions.

Structural & Functional Features:
-
Bipolar Chopper Drive: Patented 4-phase PWM chopping at 20 kHz for high back EMF rejection with low chopping ripple
-
Digital Electronic Damping: Eliminates torque loss and motor stalling in mid-speed regions
-
Short Circuit Protection: Disables drive on motor output short circuit

MOSFET Power Devices: Eliminate acoustical noise
-
Optically Isolated Signal Interface: Enhances noise immunity
-
Enable Sense: Allows polarity reversal via jumper J6 5-6
Working Principle:
The drive receives step and direction pulses, then regulates the phase current to the motor windings via a 20 kHz bipolar chopper. Microstepping divides each full step into smaller increments (up to 1/250) for smooth, high-resolution motion. Digital electronic damping compensates for mid-band resonance instability inherent in open-loop stepper systems.
Application Scenarios:
-
X-Y tables and slides
-
Packaging machinery
-
Robotics
-
Specialty machinery
-
Index feed of material
-
Labeling machines
Installation Requirements & Precautions:
-
Mounting: Bookcase style to a cooling plate (aluminum plate or heatsink) with sufficient thickness to maintain chassis below 60°C, using two M4 or 6-32 screws
-
J3 Motor Connections: Connect to two-phase stepper motor windings
-
J2 Power Connector: 24-75 V DC @ 5.0 A
-
J1 Signal Interface: Optically isolated step/direction/enable inputs
-
DIP Switches: Set motor current (S1) and step size
-
Jumper J6: Configure Idle Current Reduction delay and Enable Sense polarity
-
Avoid customer modification, physical mishandling, or miswiring—these void the warranty
