Working Principle

24VDC cabinet power supplies power to multi-core industrial CPU, memory and solid-state storage unit of KPC4 control PC. Real-time VxWorks operating system loads robot motion control kernel and user KRL automation programs from internal SSD. The CPU continuously completes forward/inverse kinematics calculation based on robot target coordinates, outputs high-speed position control commands to servo drive units via proprietary internal robot bus, while receiving real-time motor encoder feedback signals to form closed-loop multi-axis motion control. External communication interfaces transmit robot production data, alarm logs and program status to workshop upper-level control system; USB service port provides offline maintenance and firmware upgrade channel. Hardware watchdog circuit monitors CPU operation status continuously to trigger automatic reset if system deadlock occurs, ensuring robot safety stop.

Material Composition & Structural Characteristics

  • Outer Housing: Black thickened cold-rolled steel sheet enclosure with internal EMC electromagnetic shielding coating
  • Main Circuit Board: Industrial multi-layer server-grade PCB with anti-vibration reinforced chip soldering process
  • Storage Medium: Wide-temperature industrial SSD without rotating mechanical components
  • Heat Dissipation System: Passive heat sink + low-speed silent industrial cooling fan with dust filter screen
  • Connection Interfaces: Gold-plated RJ45 Ethernet sockets, locked USB ports, metal circular internal robot bus connectors
  • Mounting Structure: Fixed bracket designed for internal installation inside KR C4 robot control cabinet

    Installation Requirements

    1. Install at designated fixed bracket position inside KUKA KR C4 robot controller cabinet only.
    2. Reserve 40mm ventilation gap around KPC4 unit for cooling fan air circulation.
    3. All Ethernet communication cables must use CAT5E or above shielded twisted-pair cable.
    4. Cabinet ambient temperature must be controlled below 55°C continuous operation; install cabinet air conditioner for high-temperature workshop environments.
    5. Fasten all mounting screws to specified torque value to resist workshop mechanical vibration.
    6. Ensure proper connection of internal servo bus cables; loose connectors will trigger motion communication interruption.
    7. Do not install close to high-power contactors, frequency converters to prevent strong electromagnetic interference.

    Application Scenarios

    • Automotive production line spot welding, arc welding, handling and palletizing KUKA KR C4 robot systems
    • Metal processing, casting and forging workshop robotic material handling equipment
    • Food, logistics industry automated palletizing and depalletizing robot controllers
    • Electronic manufacturing assembly, gluing, testing robotic work cells
    • Paint shop automated spraying robot control cabinets
    • General industry multi-axis customized robot automation solutions adopting KR C4 platform

    Operation & Maintenance Precautions

    1. Cut off main cabinet power supply before removing or installing the KPC4 module; hot plugging is strictly prohibited.
    2. Regularly inspect cooling fan rotation status and dust filter screen every three months; clean accumulated dust to avoid overheating shutdown.
    3. Do not open the sealed steel housing of KPC4; internal circuit boards contain precision industrial components with no user-serviceable parts.
    4. Back up robot programs, tool parameters, motion configurations and system image to external storage before module replacement or firmware upgrade.
    5. Avoid impact and vibration during transportation or disassembly; internal memory and SSD are sensitive to violent collision.
    6. Prevent conductive dust, oil mist and cutting fluid vapor from entering the cabinet to avoid circuit corrosion and short circuit.
    7. Use only official KUKA matched firmware versions; mismatched firmware will cause robot motion disorder or startup failure.
    8. When communication failure occurs, firstly check locking status of internal bus connectors and Ethernet cable shielding grounding condition.
