Working Principle
Field 4–20mA sensor current signal enters independent intrinsic safety isolation circuit on each channel, limiting voltage/current entering hazardous area to explosion-proof safety threshold. Precision 24-bit ADC converts analog current to digital signal, on-board MCU processes HART digital modulation signal superimposed on current loop, separates process variable value and auxiliary device diagnostic data. Digital data transmitted through DeltaV CHARM bus to controller, system judges loop fault via real-time loop resistance calculation.

Installation Requirements
- Mount on dedicated DeltaV CHARM carrier DIN rail rack, only install inside Class I Div.2 safe cabinets
- Field sensor wiring must use IS-certified shielded cable for Zone 0/1 hazardous locations
- Maintain ≥20mm clearance between CHARM modules for heat dissipation
- All cable shields single-point grounded at cabinet safety ground bar, no multi-point grounding
- Maximum field wiring length limited to 1000m for 4–20mA HART loops
Application Scenarios
- Petrochemical refinery: Pressure transmitter, differential flow meter signal collection
- LNG terminal: Low-temperature tank level sensor monitoring
- Fertilizer plant: Ammonia reactor temperature & pressure measurement loops
- Offshore oil platform: Explosion-proof process parameter acquisition
- Power plant flue gas treatment: Continuous emission monitoring sensor input
Operation Precautions
- Do not modify internal intrinsic safety circuit; any disassembly voids IS certification
- Avoid connecting non-IS certified field transmitters to module channels in hazardous zones
- Do not stack multiple heat-generating CHARM modules in tight cabinet spaces without ventilation
- Perform quarterly loop resistance diagnostic test via DeltaV workstation to prevent hidden wiring corrosion
- Keep front terminal block sealed to avoid corrosive gas ingress in chemical workshops
- Do not apply over 30VDC external voltage directly to input terminals, will damage isolation barrier
