Functional Features
- Integrated full-length metal shielding bar bonded to cabinet protective earth to eliminate variable frequency drive and motor cabinet EMI noise
- 8 independent standardized module slots supporting all DeltaV M-series analog input, analog output, discrete I/O, serial and fieldbus communication modules
- Passive backplane bus routes LocalBus communication signals and shared field power supply to each slot without active processing chips
- Built-in over-current fuse protection for shared field power bus to avoid single module short-circuit affecting all 8 slots
- Keyed slot positioning design supports D4/D6 different module terminal block mechanical locking compatibility
- Rack mounting rail structure compatible with standard 19-inch industrial control cabinet vertical installation
- Unified earth bus terminal block for centralized cabinet grounding of all installed modules
- Module insertion guide rails to prevent misalignment during hot-swap replacement
Working Principle
The carrier base receives 12.6VDC LocalBus system power and 30VDC field power supply from upstream KJ4002X1 series vertical main carrier unit via internal copper bus bars. Passive printed circuit backplane distributes communication bus signals and power to each of the 8 module slots. Integrated metal shielding bar contacts each inserted module housing to form continuous ground shielding loop, diverting cabinet electromagnetic interference to facility protective earth. Over-current fuse elements cut off shared field power supply if any module slot generates short-circuit fault, protecting remaining installed I/O hardware.
Material Composition & Structural Characteristics
- Main Frame: High-strength cold-rolled steel sheet with anti-rust electrophoretic black coating
- Backplane Circuit: Single-layer FR4 PCB with thick copper power distribution traces
- EMI Shielding Bar: Continuous extruded aluminum alloy strip with conductive anti-oxidation surface treatment
- Mounting Guide Rails: Molded flame-retardant ABS plastic
- Power Bus Terminals: Tinned copper spring-cage wiring terminals
Installation Requirements
- Vertical mounting on DeltaV standard cabinet rail, paired with left-side KJ4002X1-BA1 main vertical carrier rack
- Connect carrier ground terminal to cabinet earth bar with minimum 6mm² copper wire
- Maintain 30mm vertical ventilation gap above and below carrier unit for heat dissipation
- Hazardous Zone 2 installation complies with DeltaV Zone 2 hardware installation manual
- All LocalBus and field power wiring must use shielded power cables with single-point grounding
Application Scenarios
Central DeltaV DCS control cabinet I/O hardware installation carrier base for petrochemical, thermal power, coal chemical, water treatment, pharmaceutical process automation systems, used to aggregate multi-channel analog/digital/communication I/O modules.
Operation & Maintenance Precautions
- Do not disassemble integrated metal shielding bar or backplane circuit board
- Inspect internal power bus fuses quarterly; replace damaged fuses with Emerson original matching specifications only
- Avoid installing carrier unit adjacent to large AC frequency converters without additional shielding partition
- All module hot swap operations must fully open module latch before extraction
- Prevent conductive dust accumulation inside carrier slot area; clean with dry compressed air every half year
