Product Short Description
Product Overview
MPB1-TP serves as a dedicated hot-pluggable communication expansion accessory engineered exclusively for Eaton XV400 series compact industrial touch HMI units. This module extends the base HMI communication capability by adding an isolated serial interface supporting multiple mainstream industrial serial protocols. It enables data exchange between the HMI and PLCs, variable frequency drives, intelligent sensors, weighing controllers and field monitoring instruments without replacing the main human-machine interface hardware.

Working Principle
The expansion module communicates with the XV400 HMI main control chip via internal parallel bus. User-configured protocol parameters are stored in onboard non-volatile memory. When the HMI initiates read/write commands to field devices, the module converts internal parallel data frames into standard RS485 serial differential signals and transmits to slave equipment. Returned data from field instruments is captured via differential signal circuit, isolated and converted back into parallel data for the HMI processor. The direction control circuit automatically switches transceiver status to realize half-duplex Modbus communication.
Installation Requirements
- Cut off power supply of XV400 HMI before installation; strictly prohibit hot swapping of expansion modules.
- Align PCB edge connector with HMI rear expansion slot, push the module fully into position and fix with locking screws.
- Use twisted shielded pair cables for RS485 field wiring; connect cable shield to single ground point at HMI side.
- Install terminal resistance at the two extreme ends of long-distance serial bus when communication distance exceeds 300 meters.
- Keep serial signal cables separated from high-current AC power cables with minimum 20 cm clearance to avoid electromagnetic coupling interference.
- Do not bundle RS485 wiring alongside inverter power output cables.
Application Scenarios
Small-scale automated assembly lines, building automation control panels, water treatment local control cabinets, packaging machinery control systems, pump and fan group monitoring, small energy management systems, factory decentralized sensor data collection.
Operation & Maintenance Precautions
- Do not short-circuit RS485 A/B signal terminals; short circuit will permanently damage onboard transceiver chip.
- Regularly check terminal screw tightness every 12 months; loose terminals cause intermittent communication failures.
- When multiple Modbus slave devices exist, reasonably set polling interval to avoid bus congestion and communication timeout faults.
- Avoid operating under ambient temperature above 55°C continuously; high temperature accelerates aging of optocoupler isolation devices.
- Do not use unshielded ordinary cables for long-distance serial communication.
- After power failure, verify protocol parameters if communication is abnormal; unexpected electrostatic impact may lead to parameter loss in extreme environments.
