Product Short Description
Product Introduction:
The 8MSA3M is a compact permanent‑magnet synchronous servo motor from B&R’s 8MSA family, frame size 3 with “M” (medium) inertia variant. It balances dynamic response with torque capacity, integrating a multi‑turn absolute optical encoder for high‑resolution position feedback without homing sequences.

Material Composition:
-
Stator laminations: Grain‑oriented silicon steel (FeSi), 0.35 mm thickness
-
Rotor: High‑coercivity permanent magnets (NdFeB, N42SH grade)
-
Housing: Aluminium alloy (EN AC‑46000), anodised
-
Shaft: Hardened alloy steel (C45E), chrome‑plated
-
Bearings: Deep‑groove ball bearings, sealed, grease‑lubricated (6000 series)
-
Connector: M23 connector, gold‑plated contacts, IP67 rated
Structural Features:
-
Cylindrical housing with integral cooling fan
-
Front‑side connector for power and encoder
-
Compact 42 mm flange design for space‑constrained applications
-
Keyed shaft per DIN 6885‑1 for positive torque transmission
Functional Features:
-
Integrated multi‑turn absolute encoder eliminates need for reference run after power loss
-
Sin/Cos and Hiperface DSL interfaces for high‑resolution position feedback
-
High dynamic response with low rotor inertia
-
Intelligent thermal management with built‑in temperature sensor (PTC/KTY)
-
Plug‑and‑play compatibility with B&R ACOPOS servo drive series
Working Principle:
The 3‑phase stator winding, energised by the ACOPOS drive with sinusoidal PWM, creates a rotating magnetic field. The NdFeB rotor follows this field, with position feedback from the absolute optical encoder closing the servo loop for precise torque, speed, and position control.
Application Scenarios:
-
Packaging machinery
-
Printing and converting equipment
-
CNC machining centres (tool changer, auxiliary axes)
-
Robotics and pick‑and‑place systems
-
Textile machinery
-
Food and beverage automation
Installation Requirements:
-
Mount on a rigid, flat surface using four M5 bolts, torque 2.5 N·m
-
Ensure minimum 50 mm clearance around the motor for airflow (forced convection fan)
-
Use shielded cable for encoder and power connections
-
Grounding resistance must be ≤ 1 Ω
-
Ambient temperature: –10 °C to +55 °C
-
Connect motor to compatible B&R ACOPOS drive (e.g., 8V1016.00‑2)
Usage Precautions:
-
Do not exceed rated peak current for more than 5 seconds
-
Do not disassemble the encoder housing – calibration will be lost
-
Ensure proper cable strain relief at the M23 connector
-
Regularly check bearing condition after 10,000 operating hours
-
Do not operate in corrosive atmospheres without additional enclosure
-
The internal fan requires clean air; filter intake in dusty environments
