Structural Characteristics
Standard DCS800 drive rack pluggable module form factor, front removable two-row screw terminal block for field analog wiring, rear gold-plated edge connector for drive backplane communication and power supply
Working Principle
Field process analog sensor signals enter isolated input channels, filtered and converted to digital data via onboard ADC chip, digital signal transmitted through drive backplane bus to DCS800 main control CPU. User-configured control algorithms generate analog output setpoints converted via DAC chip, isolated and output to external proportional valves, indicators and auxiliary process actuators.
Advantage Highlights
- Direct native expansion for DCS800 DC drive without external signal isolator accessories
- Integrated 50mA sensor excitation source eliminates separate 24V power supply for passive transmitters
- Hot plug capability minimizes production line downtime during module replacement
- Software configurable signal ranges reduce spare module inventory requirement
Applicable Industries
Metallurgical rolling mill DC motor drives, paper machine winder/unwinder speed control, mining conveyor DC traction drives, printing press main drive systems, plastic extrusion line DC motor speed regulation
Installation Requirements
- Insert module into vacant slot on ABB DCS800 main drive unit internal rack
- Maintain minimum 15mm vertical ventilation gap between adjacent expansion modules
- Analog field wiring uses shielded twisted pair cable with single-point shield grounding
- Cabinet ambient air circulation required for continuous full-load module operation
Usage Precautions
- Do not apply signal voltage exceeding 12V DC to analog input terminals
- Limit single auxiliary current source output load to maximum 50mA DC continuous
- Execute module channel parameter reset after hardware replacement
- Prevent conductive dust accumulation inside drive cabinet to avoid terminal short-circuit risk
