Working Principle:
Within the argon ion plasma tube, electrical discharge excites argon atoms to produce coherent light at 488 nm. The optical resonator amplifies and directs the beam, which is coupled into a single-mode fiber. Air cooling dissipates the heat generated by the discharge, maintaining wavelength and output stability. Fast warm-up circuitry brings the laser to operational specification quickly.
Application Scenarios:
-
DNA sequencing
-
Flow cytometry
-
Confocal microscopy
-
Semiconductor inspection
-
Hematology
-
High-speed printing and photo-processing
-
Fiber-optic communication (research)
-
Optical processing and medical instrumentation
Installation Requirements:
-
Mount in a well-ventilated location with adequate airflow for air cooling
-
Connect the fiber output to the target optical system using compatible ferrules
-
Provide a stable power supply per JDSU specifications
-
Ensure operating ambient temperature stays within 10–40 °C
Usage Notes:
-
Avoid looking directly into the laser beam or fiber output — Class-level safety precautions apply
-
Do not operate in environments exceeding 85% humidity
-
Allow proper warm-up time for wavelength stabilization
-
Schedule periodic maintenance to sustain the 10,000-hour typical lifetime
