Product Short Description
Product Name
505 Series Digital Governor / Turbine Control Module
Product Introduction
The Woodward 9907-1183 is a member of the Woodward 505 series digital steam turbine control family. It integrates speed control, load regulation, synchronous detection, and overspeed protection in a single microprocessor-based controller. Depending on configuration, it can be deployed as a complete turbine governor or as a digital input/expansion module within a 505 control system.

Automatic PID parameter calculation and valve ratio setting for simplified commissioning.
-
Ratio limiter function decouples speed and extraction pressure for single-extraction or single-admission turbines.
-
Integrated OCP for local parameter setting and status monitoring.
-
Standard RS-232 and Ethernet interfaces with Modbus protocol for DCS/PLC integration.
-
LinkNet HT distributed I/O expansion for flexible channel count.

Comprehensive fault diagnostics and protection (including overspeed trip).
Application Scenarios
-
Fossil Power Plants: Steam turbine generator speed control and load dispatch.
-
Industrial Waste Heat Recovery: Turbine control under fluctuating steam conditions.
-
Oil & Gas: Compressor-drive turbine control with extraction pressure regulation.
-
Turbo-expander Energy Recovery: Rapid speed regulation for surge prevention.
Working Principle
The controller samples speed via MPU and process variables via analog inputs. The 32-bit processor runs control algorithms to produce 0–10 V DC actuator drive signals. For extraction turbines, the ratio limiter independently regulates speed and extraction pressure. Communications allow DCS integration for supervisory control and data acquisition.
Installation Requirements
-
Install inside a control cabinet providing IP56 / NEMA 4X protection.
-
Provide 24 V DC power (18–32 V) with correct polarity.
-
Connect speed probe(s), pressure transmitters, and other analog sensors.
-
Wire actuator output to turbine control valve or servo.
-
Establish Ethernet or RS-232/485 link to DCS/PLC.
-
Use ESD grounding during installation.
Usage Precautions
-
Verify supply voltage is within 18–32 V DC before power-up.
-
Confirm signal types match terminal assignments (4–20 mA or 0–10 V).
-
Do not expose to moisture beyond IP56-rated enclosure.
-
Periodically review fault history and real-time trends via OCP.
-
Observe all lockout/tagout procedures during maintenance.
-
Keep firmware and configuration backups for rapid recovery.
