  • Supports VxWorks, OS-9 and other classic real-time operating systems

Working Principle

The MC68040 processor executes application firmware and operating system code stored in Flash. The local 32-bit synchronous bus interconnects memory, serial controllers and VMEchip2 ASIC. VMEchip2 bridges local bus and VME backplane to realize inter-board data exchange. IndustryPack interfaces extend analog/digital I/O modules to acquire field signals, which are processed by the CPU and transmitted via serial or VMEbus channels.

Material & Structural Characteristics

  • Base substrate: Multi-layer FR-4 printed circuit board with controlled impedance routing
  • Front panel: Aluminum alloy extrusion with locking ejector handles, status LED indicators
  • Connectors: P1/P2 VME backplane connectors, DB-25 serial front panel connectors, IP mezzanine card connectors
  • Passive components: Industrial-grade tantalum capacitors, metal film resistors; socketed memory chips for maintenance

Application Scenarios

Legacy industrial automation systems, railway signal control, test measurement equipment, military embedded control, offshore platform auxiliary control, medical imaging legacy control units.

Installation Requirements

  • Install into standard 6U VME card cage with proper guide rails; ensure full insertion into P1/P2 backplane connectors
  • Maintain forced air cooling airflow across board surface; maximum allowable component temperature 85°C
  • Set board address, interrupt level and system controller mode via on-board jumpers before power-up
  • Leave minimum 15mm clearance above and below the board for ventilation

Usage Precautions

  • Use ESD protection wristband during handling; static discharge will damage on-board ASIC and memory chips
  • Regularly inspect lithium backup battery; replace battery within 5 years to avoid loss of SRAM and clock data
  • Do not hot-swap the board under powered condition; power down chassis before insertion or removal
  • Avoid operation in high humidity, corrosive gas and heavy vibration environments without additional enclosure protection
  • Prevent dust accumulation on PCB surface to avoid leakage current and short circuit faults
