Working Principle

Power and LocalBus communication signals are transmitted from upstream vertical carrier rack via internal backplane copper traces to each of the 8 module mounting slots. Shared field power bus supplies operating voltage to field wiring terminal blocks of inserted I/O modules. Fuse elements protect against short-circuit overload of shared field power supply. Without integrated metal shielding bar, this carrier relies on cabinet overall metal frame to provide basic electromagnetic noise shielding, only suitable for low EMI industrial environments without high-power variable frequency drives.

  • Main Frame: Cold-rolled steel sheet with black anti-rust electrophoretic coating
  • Backplane Circuit: Single-layer FR4 PCB with thick copper power distribution traces
  • Guide Rail Components: UL94 V-0 flame retardant ABS plastic
  • Power Terminals: Tinned copper spring-cage wiring terminals

Installation Requirements

  1. Vertical installation on DeltaV standard cabinet rail, matched with KJ4002X1-BA1 left vertical main carrier
  2. Connect central ground terminal to cabinet protective earth bar with minimum 6mm² copper conductor
  3. Only deploy in low-EMI cabinet environments without large AC drives, welding equipment or high-power motors
  4. Reserve 30mm vertical ventilation gap above and below carrier unit

Application Scenarios

Clean industrial automation control cabinets including food & beverage production lines, pharmaceutical cleanroom DCS systems, municipal water treatment low-interference central control rooms, building HVAC automation DeltaV control hardware racks.

Operation & Maintenance Precautions

  1. Not suitable for high EMI cabinet environments with frequency converters; use KJ4001X1-BE1 shielded carrier variant instead
  2. Replace blown power fuses only with Emerson original specified current rating fuses
  3. Clean slot dust accumulation with dry compressed air every six months
  4. Avoid live disassembly of backplane wiring terminals to prevent bus short-circuit

8. Emerson KJ4002X1-BA1

Product Full Name

DeltaV M-Series Vertical Left-Side 8-Wide Main I/O Carrier Rack

Product Brief Introduction

Left vertical master rack carrier unit of Emerson DeltaV M-series I/O system, the primary power and LocalBus signal distribution backbone for secondary KJ4001X1 series 8-slot terminal base carriers. It supplies 12.6VDC LocalBus system power and 30VDC shared field power to cascaded secondary I/O carriers, forms complete DeltaV rack mechanical mounting framework.

  • Field Power Bus Output Specification: 30VDC, 6.5A aggregated field power supply
  • Maximum Cascadable Secondary Carriers: Multiple KJ4001X1-BE1 / CJ1 8-slot terminal base units
  • Environmental Operating Temperature: -40°C ~ +70°C
  • Shock Test Standard: 10g half-sine wave impact, 11ms duration
  • Vibration Resistance: 1mm pp (2–13.2Hz), 0.7g acceleration (13.2–150Hz)
  • Air Contamination Grade: ISA-S71.04 Class G3 heavy industrial pollution
  • Relative Humidity: 5% ~ 95% non-condensing
  • Hazardous Location Certifications: ATEX II 3G Ex ec IIC Gc, FM Class I Div.2 Groups A/B/C/D

Functional Features

  1. Master power distribution hub converting system input power to LocalBus and shared field power for all cascaded secondary I/O carriers
  2. Primary DeltaV LocalBus backplane signal routing bus to transmit controller communication data to all downstream I/O modules
  3. Vertical full-length steel rack structure provides complete mechanical mounting rail for secondary terminal base carriers
  4. Integrated main circuit over-current protection fuses for LocalBus and field power output circuits
  5. Central heavy-duty cabinet earth bus terminal for whole rack unified grounding
  6. Left-side vertical positioning design matching right-side KJ4002X1-BB1 complementary vertical carrier rack
  7. Hardened industrial mechanical structure resisting cabinet vibration and mechanical impact during plant operation

Working Principle

External system power supply connects to the vertical main rack’s power input terminals, internal power conversion and distribution copper bus bars split power into 12.6VDC LocalBus logic power and 30VDC field wiring power. DeltaV controller LocalBus communication signals enter the main rack backplane and are broadcast to all cascaded secondary KJ4001X1 carrier units via dedicated differential signal traces. Integrated fuse protection circuits cut off power output in case of downstream short-circuit fault to protect upstream DeltaV controller hardware. The vertical steel frame forms continuous grounding path for all secondary carrier shielding bars.

Material Composition & Structural Characteristics

  • Main Vertical Frame: Thickened cold-rolled steel sheet with black anti-corrosion electrophoretic coating
  • Internal Power Bus: High cross-section tinned copper bus bars for low power loss
  • Backplane Signal Circuit: Multi-layer FR4 PCB with differential impedance controlled traces
  • Mounting Rail: Molded flame-retardant ABS plastic positioning rails
  • Power Input Terminals: Large-capacity copper spring-cage terminals for heavy current wiring

Installation Requirements

  1. Fixed vertically to 19-inch industrial control cabinet rear mounting rail as the left master rack of DeltaV I/O cabinet
  2. Main rack earth terminal connected to facility main protective earth bar with minimum 10mm² copper wire
  3. All power input cables use shielded heavy-duty power cables with single-point cabinet grounding
  4. Hazardous Zone 2 installation strictly follow DeltaV Zone 2 hardware installation specification document 12P2046
  5. Maintain 50mm top ventilation clearance for main rack power distribution heat dissipation

Application Scenarios

Master backbone rack hardware for all DeltaV DCS process automation control cabinets in petrochemical, thermal power, coal chemical, water treatment, natural gas pipeline industries, supporting cascaded multi-group I/O module secondary carrier deployment.

Operation & Maintenance Precautions

  1. Cut off entire rack input power before modifying any main rack power bus wiring
  2. Inspect main power fuses monthly; replace only with Emerson original rated fuses
  3. Do not stack heavy mechanical components on vertical main rack frame
  4. Clean internal copper bus bar dust accumulation annually during plant shutdown maintenance
  5. Verify cabinet earth connection resistance quarterly to ensure grounding continuity
