Product Short Description

Product Overview & Brief Introduction

FC-USI-0002 is a dual-channel universal signal isolation interface module designed for Honeywell Safety Manager and FSC systems, providing galvanic isolation between field analog/discrete signals and safety controller I/O cards to eliminate ground loop interference, hazardous zone cross-conduction and electromagnetic noise. It supports both analog 4–20mA HART signals and 24VDC discrete digital signals on two universal independent channels.

Function Features

  • Dual universal channel design processes both analog HART and discrete digital safety signals on one compact DIN rail unit
  • Complete ground loop elimination via reinforced galvanic isolation barriers
  • Pass-through HART communication without signal attenuation for remote transmitter diagnostics
  • Per-channel signal loss and fault detection with LED visual alarm indicators
  • Compact DIN rail form factor for installation inside marshalling cabinets or field junction boxes
  • Intrinsically safe certification for hazardous area field signal isolation applications
  • Zero signal distortion for fast-response dynamic process measurement signals

Working Principle

Field-side analog or discrete signals enter the isolation module’s primary channel circuit; electrical energy is transferred across reinforced isolation barriers via magnetic transformer coupling without conductive electrical connection between field and safety rack circuits. Isolated secondary circuits reconstruct identical signal waveforms to transmit to the safety controller I/O card, fully blocking ground potential differences, transient surge energy and industrial electromagnetic noise interference. HART digital modulation signals are inductively coupled across the isolation barrier to maintain full bidirectional smart device communication functionality.

Material Composition & Structural Characteristics

  1. Outer Housing: Compact flame-retardant orange PA66 polycarbonate DIN rail enclosure
  2. Internal Circuit Board: High-precision FR4 PCB with miniature isolation transformer components
  3. Terminal Blocks: Small spring screw terminals supporting 0.5–1.5mm² shielded signal cables
  4. Isolation Core: Epoxy-sealed reinforced insulation signal transformers with 2500VAC dielectric strength

Installation Requirements

  1. Standard 35mm DIN rail vertical mounting inside marshalling cabinets or explosion-proof field junction boxes
  2. Field-side wiring and safety rack-side wiring must run in separate cable conduits with no shared ground paths
  3. Intrinsically safe wiring practices mandatory when installed in Class I Div 1 hazardous process zones
  4. Maintain 10mm minimum horizontal spacing between adjacent isolation modules for heat dissipation

Application Scenarios

  • Offshore platform hazardous zone HART transmitter ground loop isolation
  • Chemical reactor SIL safety analog signal noise suppression interfaces
  • Power plant turbine discrete safety interlock signal isolation units
  • Refinery tank farm level transmitter ground potential difference elimination modules

Usage Precautions

  1. Do not exceed maximum 20mA analog signal input rating on either channel to avoid internal transformer saturation
  2. Ensure single-point grounding of all shielded signal cables to prevent residual ground loop voltage buildup
  3. Verify HART communication pass-through functionality during commissioning with handheld HART communicator tools
  4. Avoid mounting module adjacent to high-power variable frequency drive units to minimize radiated EMI interference
