Product Brief Introduction
UNIOP EKDC-16 (6ZA933-7) is a DIN rail mounted digital input expansion module exclusively matched to UNIOP series touchscreen HMI integrated controllers. It provides 16 channels of galvanically isolated 24 V DC digital input interfaces for collecting field limit switches, proximity sensors, pushbuttons, safety door interlock signals and relay auxiliary contact feedback signals. The module connects to UNIOP HMI via dedicated internal expansion bus, extending native HMI digital input channel capacity without separate external PLC hardware, supporting industrial automation packaging, textile, material handling and small machinery control applications.

Working Principle
Field 24 V DC digital sensor signals are transmitted to EKDC-16 channel input terminals; each signal passes through reverse polarity protection circuits and 4 ms hardware de-bounce filters before entering isolated optocoupler units. Optocouplers convert field-side voltage signals into isolated digital logic levels for internal module logic circuits. All 16-channel input status data is scanned synchronously at 0.5 ms intervals and transmitted via UNIOP dedicated expansion bus to the connected host HMI controller. The HMI stores all digital input states in internal register memory for control logic execution, real-time screen status display and fault alarm trigger judgment. Front panel channel LED indicators directly reflect the on/off logic state of each corresponding field input signal for on-site maintenance visualization.
Applicable Industries
Packaging automated machinery, textile production line equipment, food processing conveying systems, plastic injection molding machines, woodworking CNC equipment, automated warehouse conveying robots, small-scale water treatment skid control panels, building HVAC auxiliary equipment monitoring
Installation Mandatory Requirements
- Mounting Method: Secure to standard 35 mm DIN rail inside IP30+ rated industrial control cabinet; reserve minimum 10 mm vertical clearance between adjacent modules for heat dissipation
- Expansion Bus Wiring: Use factory-supplied dedicated flat ribbon expansion bus cable only; non-OEM cables cause communication packet loss and input signal lag
- Field Sensor Wiring: Deploy shielded twisted-pair cables for long-distance sensor wiring; separate signal cables from high-current power cables with minimum 20 mm clearance inside wiring trays
- Power Supply Specification: Connect module power terminals to regulated 24 V DC SELV industrial power supply fitted with 3 A slow-blow protective fuse
- Grounding Rule: Connect module chassis PE terminal to cabinet main protective earth bar with 0.75 mm² minimum copper conductor
- Cabinet Environment Restriction: Prohibit installation in environments with continuous oil mist, corrosive chemical vapor or conductive carbon dust accumulation
Operation & Maintenance Precautions
- Do not plug/unplug expansion bus ribbon cable while HMI or EKDC-16 module is energized to prevent bus interface chip burnout
- Continuous short-circuit of field input terminals over 3 seconds activates channel lockout protection; power cycle module to reset fault protection state
- Ambient operating temperature exceeding +55 °C increases input signal sampling error and triggers LED indicator brightness degradation
- Inspect spring push-in terminals every 6 months to eliminate loose wiring contact resistance leading to unstable input signal reading
- Maximum cascading limit of 8 modules per HMI unit must not be exceeded; excess modules cause bus communication overload and data refresh delay
- Clean front panel LED indicator surface only with dry microfiber cloth; chemical cleaning solvents damage plastic housing surface and printed labeling
