Working Principle
24 VDC control supply power energizes the onboard 32-bit RISC CPU and internal auxiliary power regulators supplying connected plug-in I/O cartridges. Field digital and analog sensor signals routed to inserted PCD3 I/O cartridges are converted to digital data and transmitted across the internal expansion backplane bus to the CPU memory. The CPU executes cyclic IEC 61131-3 control program logic stored in flash memory every configurable scan cycle, generating output command signals sent back to I/O cartridges to actuate valves, relays, and variable frequency drives. Communication ports exchange process data with remote HMI panels, SCADA servers, and third-party field devices over Ethernet TCP/IP or serial Modbus RTU buses. The onboard real-time clock timestamps all alarm events and energy consumption data stored in battery-backed RAM for historical logging and remote data retrieval via FTP file transfer.
