Product Short Description
Product Overview
This unit is an integrated backplane carrier and centralized power distribution module designed for Alstom Advant / ABB AC800F distributed control system racks. It combines the passive backplane bus connector, multi-channel regulated power supply, and signal interlock logic into one single pluggable module, supporting 4–8 expansion slots for CPU, communication and analog/digital I/O modules while distributing stabilized isolated power to all rack-mounted sub-modules.

Function & Performance Features
- Integrated passive multi-slot backplane bus eliminates separate motherboard installation, simplifying rack wiring and assembly
- Centralized power conditioning distributes stable multi-voltage DC power to all inserted rack modules via gold-plated backplane edge connectors
- Bus arbitration logic built-in to manage communication data transmission between multiple CPU and I/O modules on the same rack backplane
- Hardware interlock safety circuit prevents hot insertion of modules under live power to avoid backplane bus short-circuit damage
- Multi-channel status LED array indicating mains input presence, each DC rail output status, backplane bus activity and fault alarm
- Wide tolerance input circuit withstands ±25% AC mains voltage fluctuation in unstable industrial power grids
- Overload current grading protection: independent current limiting for each backplane slot to isolate single module fault without full rack shutdown
- Compact all-in-one design reduces overall cabinet space occupation by 30% compared to separate power supply + discrete backplane configurations
Working Principle
AC mains input is filtered and converted to stabilized multi-rail DC power inside the module, then transmitted through internal copper traces to each backplane slot edge connector. The embedded bus arbitration logic coordinates read/write data requests from all plugged-in CPU and I/O modules on the parallel backplane bus to eliminate data collision. Current monitoring circuits are placed at each slot power feed; if a single inserted module draws over-limit current or creates short-circuit, the corresponding slot power supply is instantly cut off while remaining rack modules maintain normal operation. All power and signal circuits maintain galvanic isolation from external mains power to block ground loop interference from field equipment.
Material & Structural Composition
- Main backplane PCB: Multi-layer heavy copper FR4 industrial circuit board with gold-plated slot edge connectors for long service life
- Outer mounting frame: Powder-coated cold rolled steel with stainless steel locking latches for rack fixation
- Power conversion section: Aluminum extruded heat sink, high-frequency isolation transformers, temperature-resistant power semiconductors
- Terminal connectors: Flame-retardant PA plastic screw terminal blocks with copper alloy wire clamping terminals
- Indicator components: Industrial wide-temperature range SMD LED status lights with dust transparent protective cover
Installation Requirements
- Mount horizontally in standard 19-inch industrial control rack, reserved minimum 60mm vertical clearance for heat convection
- Mains power cable must use minimum 1.5mm² cross-section shielded cable with dedicated protective earth connection
- All signal wiring from field devices must be separated from mains power wiring with minimum 40mm routing distance
- Tighten backplane rack mounting screws to torque 1.2 N·m to prevent vibration-induced loose contact
- After full rack module insertion, perform continuous 4-hour full-load temperature stability test before formal process commissioning
- Cabinet internal cooling fan is mandatory if ambient operating temperature exceeds 50°C
Typical Application Scenarios
- Large-scale power station DCS main control racks for steam turbine and boiler coordinated control
- Chemical plant multi-unit process distributed control cabinet main power & backplane carrier
- Pulp & paper factory high-speed paper machine control rack
- Mining mineral processing plant centralized automation control cabinets
- Municipal large-scale sewage treatment plant multi-channel monitoring control racks
Mandatory Operation & Maintenance Precautions
- Complete mains power isolation and residual capacitor discharge before removing or inserting the PIB102A module (minimum 20-minute discharge waiting time)
- Never plug in defective short-circuited I/O modules into the backplane slots to avoid permanent damage to backplane copper traces
- Conduct quarterly inspection of input fuses and backplane connector pins for oxidation or overheating discoloration
- Strictly limit total rack load power draw below 100W continuous to extend module service life
- Do not modify internal backplane bus wiring or bypass slot current limiting protection circuits
- Store spare modules in anti-static sealed packaging with desiccant bags to prevent PCB moisture corrosion
- If backplane communication failure occurs, first inspect slot locking latch tightness and connector pin integrity before module replacement
