Working Principle
Electrical serial signal from field RS485 sensor enters isolated front-end circuit; electrical signal converted to modulated light signal via multimode fiber transmitter chip; duplex fiber transmits light signal bidirectionally to remote matching fiber converter unit; remote receiver converts optical signal back to standard RS232/422/485 electrical serial signal for PLC/HMI equipment reception; 2kV optocoupler isolation blocks high potential ground loop voltage between two site equipment earth potentials.
Advantage Highlights
- -40°C to +75°C wide temperature operation compatible with outdoor unheated control cabinets
- ST industrial fiber connector delivers superior vibration resistance compared to plastic LC connectors
- Terminal block T suffix eliminates serial DB9 adapter cable field wiring cost
- Full industrial ESD and surge protection withstands substation and heavy machinery electromagnetic noise
- Wide 12–48V DC power input compatible with 24V control power and 48V battery backup power systems
Applicable Industries
Substation remote Modbus RTU communication, oil & gas field sensor data transmission, railway trackside serial equipment, mining underground sensor communication, factory long-distance conveyor serial control, wind turbine remote monitoring systems
Installation Requirements
- Mount unit on standard 35mm DIN rail inside metal shielded control cabinet
- Multimode ST fiber cable bend radius maintained above 12 times cable outer diameter
- Serial terminal block wiring use shielded twisted pair cable, shield grounded at converter side only
- Power supply circuit install 1A slow-blow fuse short-circuit protection
- Install matching ICF-1280I converter pair at both transmission endpoints for bidirectional communication
Operation & Maintenance Precautions
- Keep ST fiber port protective dust cap installed when fiber cable disconnected to avoid optical chip contamination
- Do not apply serial signal voltage exceeding ±12V DC to terminal block pins
- Annual power loss alarm function test to verify remote equipment failure notification performance
- Avoid mounting unit adjacent to high-power inverter or motor drive modules with strong radiated EMI
- Metal housing must connect to cabinet protective earth bar for full surge protection performance
