Clamp-on non-intrusive ultrasonic liquid flow transmitter for volumetric flow measurement of clean and lightly aerated industrial liquids, installed externally on pipe outer surface without process shutdown or pipe cutting.

Working Principle

Transmits paired ultrasonic sound waves upstream and downstream across pipe wall; calculates differential sound wave transit time difference to compute fluid flow velocity, multiplies by calibrated pipe internal cross-sectional area to output volumetric flow rate value.

Installation Requirements

  1. Mount transducers on straight pipe section with minimum 10 x pipe diameter upstream straight run, 5 x pipe diameter downstream straight run
  2. Apply factory specified ultrasonic coupling grease between transducer and pipe outer surface
  3. Ground aluminum transmitter housing to facility protective earth bus bar
  4. Route signal cable separate from high-current variable frequency drive power wiring

Operation Precautions

  1. Reapply coupling grease every 12 months for outdoor high-temperature pipe installations
  2. Avoid transducer mounting adjacent to pipe elbows, valves, pumps or flow restriction fittings
  3. Calibrate liquid sound speed parameter after process fluid composition change
  4. Protect transmitter LCD display from direct continuous UV sunlight exposure outdoors
