Description
Model Series: Cutler-Hammer C825KN (Frame C, 250A frame with 200A trip)
Technical Specifications:
- Rated Current (In): 200 A
- Rated Voltage (Ue): 600 V AC
- Frame Size: 250 A (C-frame)
- Interrupting Rating (Icu): 65 kA at 600 V (per UL 489)
- Trip Unit Type: Electronic (Thermal-Magnetic with adjustable electronic trip)
- Poles: 3-pole or 4-pole available
Functional Features:
- Adjustable long-time pickup: 0.6–1.0 × In (120 A–200 A)
- Adjustable short-time pickup: 1.5–10 × In (300 A–2000 A)
- Instantaneous trip: Fixed at 10 × In (2000 A) or adjustable on electronic versions
- Ground fault protection: Available on 4-pole models (GFI trip unit)
- Communication: Optional shunt trip, undervoltage release, auxiliary contacts
Performance Parameters:
- Short-circuit breaking capacity: 65 kA RMS symmetrical
- Mechanical endurance: 10,000 operations
- Electrical endurance: 5,000 operations at rated current
- Dielectric withstand: 2.5 kV (1 minute)
Material Composition: Thermoplastic housing (glass-filled polyester), copper/silver alloy contacts, arc chutes with steel plates
Structural Features: Front-connected or rear-connected terminal configurations; toggle or rotary handle operator; transparent window for trip unit status indication
Working Principle: Current flows through the bimetallic thermal element (long-time protection) and electromagnetic coil (short-time/instantaneous protection). The electronic trip unit samples current via CT and computes trip curves digitally. Under fault conditions, the solenoid releases the latch mechanism, opening all poles simultaneously via a spring-charged operating mechanism.
Advantages:
- High 65 kA interrupting rating in a compact frame
- Precise adjustable trip settings reduce nuisance tripping
- Field-replaceable trip units
- Wide accessory compatibility
Applicable Industries: Commercial buildings, data centers, industrial plants, hospitals, oil and gas facilities
Installation Requirements:
- Mount in panelboard or switchgear per NEC/IEC 60947-2
- Torque terminal connections to manufacturer specifications (typically 80–120 lb-ft for 200 A lugs)
- Coordinate with upstream protective device for selective tripping
Usage Notes:
- Verify voltage rating matches system (600 V max)
- Set long-time pickup to 100% of load current for continuous operation
- Perform periodic contact resistance testing per NFPA 70B
