  • Silicone gasket seal between enclosure halves — maintains IP66/IP67 rating
  • Tamper-resistant terminal cover — hinged cover with gasket protects terminals from dust and accidental contact

Working Principle

  1. The switch is mounted in a fixed position with the roller lever actuator extending toward the target surface (machine part, conveyor gate, valve stem, etc.)
  2. In the resting state (no target contact):
    • The spring-loaded lever holds the actuator in the default position
    • The COM terminal is electrically connected to the NC (normally closed) contact
    • The NO (normally open) contact is open (no connection to COM)
  3. When the target surface contacts the roller lever and applies sufficient force (2 N to 15 N, adjustable):
    • The lever rotates about its pivot point, compressing the internal snap-action spring
    • At the snap point (6 mm of travel), the stored spring energy is released instantaneously
    • The internal over-center toggle mechanism flips from one stable position to the other in <2 ms
    • This causes the COM terminal to disconnect from NC and connect to NO simultaneously
  4. When the target releases the roller lever:
    • The spring returns the lever to its resting position
    • The toggle snaps back, reconnecting COM to NC and disconnecting NO
  5. The self-cleaning wipe action of the silver alloy contacts removes any surface oxidation or contamination during each operation, ensuring low and stable contact resistance over the full service life
  6. The sealed enclosure prevents dust, moisture, and chemicals from reaching the internal contacts, maintaining reliable operation in harsh environments

Advantages and Highlights

  • Snap-action mechanism eliminates contact bounce — ensures clean digital signal output even at very low actuator speeds (as low as 0.01 m/s)
  • 10 million cycle mechanical life — outperforms most competitor limit switches by 2–5× in high-cycle applications
  • 100,000 cycle electrical life at full rated load — maintains contact integrity under 15 A resistive switching
  • IP66/IP67 sealed enclosure — fully protected against dust and water; suitable for washdown, outdoor, and submersible applications
  • Adjustable operating force (2 N to 15 N) — one switch covers a wide range of application forces without changing models
  • Silver tin oxide (AgSnO₂) contacts — superior arc suppression and contact life compared to AgCdO or pure silver contacts
  • Wide temperature range (-40°C to +85°C) — operates in freezers, ovens, outdoor installations, and unheated warehouses
  • SPDT configuration in a single switch — provides both make and break functions, reducing wiring and component count
  • Heavy-duty roller lever — stainless steel roller resists wear from millions of operations; no lubrication required
  • Screw-terminal wiring — fast installation with standard tools; no crimping or soldering required
  • UL 508 and CSA listed — approved for use in industrial control panels in North America
  • RoHS compliant — contains no lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, or PBDE/PBB flame retardants
  • Compact form factor — fits in tight spaces on machinery, conveyors, and valve assemblies

Usage Precautions

  • Never exceed the rated contact current of 15 A at 125 VAC or 10 A at 250 VAC — overloading will weld contacts and destroy the switch
  • Never exceed the rated inductive current of 2.5 A at 125 VAC — inductive loads (solenoids, relays, motors) cause arc erosion; stay within specified limits
  • Do not operate the switch in an explosive atmosphere without ATEX-certified barrier — the standard 05701-A-0301 is not intrinsically safe; use 05705-A-0301 for hazardous locations
  • Do not adjust the internal snap-action spring unless qualified — incorrect spring tension causes missed triggers or contact damage
  • Verify actuator force setting before commissioning — set to 2 N minimum for light targets, up to 15 N for heavy targets
  • Ensure the roller lever has full 12 mm of travel — obstructed travel causes incomplete switching and contact wear
  • Use shielded cable for wiring in electrically noisy environments — unshielded cables near VFDs or welders cause false triggering
  • Perform annual visual inspection of the roller for wear, the gasket for cracks, and terminals for corrosion
  • Replace the switch immediately if contact resistance exceeds 100 mΩ — elevated resistance indicates contact degradation
  • Do not use the switch for safety-critical functions without a redundant sensor — for SIL-rated safety applications, use a dedicated safety limit switch (e.g., Honeywell 900E Series)
  • Do not immerse the switch beyond 1 meter depth or for longer than 30 minutes — IP67 rating is for temporary immersion only
  • Do not paint or coat the enclosure — paint interferes with heat dissipation and may crack, compromising the IP rating
  • Store spare units in a dry environment at 0°C to 40°C, <70% RH — avoid exposure to corrosive chemicals or salt spray
  • Do not use the switch with voltages exceeding 300 VAC or 30 VDC — dielectric breakdown will occur
  • For DC switching, derate current by 50% compared to AC ratings — DC arcs are harder to extinguish
  • Log all switch failures in the maintenance management system for trend analysis and preventive replacement
